Proper Insurance
Did you know that mold insurance is separate from flood insurance? Depending on the cause of your claim, you may not be covered unless you have both types of insurance. Make sure you speak with your insurance agent and find out for sure what coverages you have. Don't be afraid to ask any questions, or voice your concerns to your agent. Make sure you and your family are properly protected BEFORE a problem arises.

Storm Safety
Tropical Depression 5 has passed us here in SW FL and decided to grace the LA coast with its bad weather. Many people here in SW FL tend to not worry as much about tropical storms / depressions, until they reach hurricane status. This is ill advised because a tropical depression, which is only the next stage up from a large thunderstorm, can still bring heavy rains, and flash floods with it. If streets are closed due to flooding from a tropical depression, do you have everything you need to sustain you and your family for a few days? Its best to be prepared in advance for ANY type of weather emergency, that way you will not have to venture out for supplies during an emergency.

Are you covered?
According to The Insurance Information Institute:
"A good rule of thumb: water that comes from the top down is generally covered by your home or renters insurance, but when it comes from the bottom up as in a flood, it's generally not. Flood insurance should be considered by every homeowner. Statistics show 26% of losses come from areas that are not deemed as flood zones."
"Even a small amount of water can cause serious damage to your home. If you haven't done so in a while, be sure to review your homeowner's insurance policy with your agent so you know what's covered and what's not, and be aware that all homes are at risk for floods."

Hurricane season starts on June 1st, and runs until November 30th. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, "A typical season has 11 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes". This year is expected to have above average activity. Experts predict that this years season will produce 8 hurricanes, 4 of them major, with a 69% chance of 1 of them making landfall along the U.S. coastline.
